PublicSafetyCommittee | 2014-02-11 | *Public Safety Committee Meeting Minutes February 11, 2014 5 Subject: Timeline For Measure Y Discussion For The November 2014 Ballot From: Councilmember Noel Gallo Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Establishing The Timeline For Discussion And Debate By The Council Regarding The Public Safety Measure (Former Measure Y) To Be Submitted By The City Council To Voters On The November 4, 2014 Ballot; And Establishing A) A Transparent Public Process That Allows For Maximum Public Participation, And B) Designating The Public Safety Committee As The Official Designated Body To Develop Policy For The Measure To Be Considered By The City Council 13-0312 A motion was made by Member Kalb, seconded by Member Gibson McElhaney, that this matter be *Approve the Recommendation of Staff, and Forward to the Meeting of the Oakland City Council, due back on February 18, 2014 as a Non-Consent Item. The motion carried by the following vote: Votes: Councilmember Aye: Member Gibson McElhaney, Member Kalb, Member Schaaf and Chair Gallo The Committee approved recommendations as amended to include the following revisions to read as follows: 1. The development of the Public Safety Measure shall be a public process with recommendations made in the Public Safety Committee of the Oakland City Council. 3. The development of the Public Safety Ballot Measure shall allow for and encourage participation from formal and informal community groups, organizations and individuals. 5. Community hearings and Public Safety Committee meetings which shall take place in March, April and May of 2014 shall be publicized and made available for public input, discussion and development of the characteristics of the Public Safety Ballot Measure from community members who wish to comment. 7. The Oakland City Council will formally consider the Public Safety Ballot Measure at one or more of the Oakland City Council Meetings prior to its summer recess.
