Provide a response and recommendations to the Foundation's\nrecommendations in the report. For those recommendations that require\nadditional funding, include in the mid-cycle budget discussions. The\nFoundation's Recommendations are as follows:\na. Restore Funding for Park Maintenance-Rising revenues from property\ntaxes should be applied to augmenting our tree and gardener crews.\nb. Bring back the Park Rangers.-Parl Rangers provided tremendous value\nto Oaklanders using our parks-they knew our parks well and knew how to deal\nwith park problems. They provided the safety and support that is sorely lacking\nin parks now.\nc. Provide a Long-Term Funding Solution for Maintenance of Measure DD\nImprovements.-Thank to a one-time infusion of funds the lake landscaping will\nbe maintained properly for at least a year but all of the Measure DD installations\nand the new medians need ongoing care if we wish to keep those areas up to\nstandards.\nd. Find a More Effective Way to Deal with the Homeless.-42% of all calls to\nthe Call Center this year were about homelessness, yet, real solutions have yet to\nbe found. It's a challenge that the City must confront.\ne. Increase Support to Neighborhood Groups and Stewards.-The\nEnvironmental Stewardship Team is building a strong program of support for\nvolunteers but more should be done to encourage the creation of new\nneighborhood park groups, especially in our less advantaged neighborhoods.\nNothing safeguards the health of a park better than the involvement of active\nvolunteers.\nf. Parks in Jeopardy-Make some difficult decisions about parks that have\nbeen abandoned to the elements. Should we close these parks or redesign them\nto require less maintenance and to attract neighborhood families?\ng. Stay Creative-Continue to explore alternative maintenance funding\napproaches such as conservancies, dedicated fees or taxes, private funding, etc.\n2.. Provide alternative uses for parks that are no longer \"family friendly\" parks.\n3.\nProvide information on increasing sponsorship and naming rights\nopportunities.\nA motion was made by Kaplan, seconded by Gallo, that this matter be Received\nand Filed.
